Places of interest in Alderley Edge, SK9
Lacey Green is a housing estate with a number of local shops and takeaways, pavilion and various green areas.
The hall was designated a Grade II listed building in 1967.[1]
Disley is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England.[2][3] It is located on the very edge of the Peak District, in the Goyt Valley, very close to the county boundary with Derbyshire at New Mills, and south of Stockport, Greater Manchester. To the north of the village, the River Goyt and the Peak Forest Canal, which opened in 1800, passes along the edge of the village. Today it is a dormitory village retaining a semi-rural character.
Nearby are two mill ponds left over from industrial activity in the vale. The ponds were fed from the river above a weir (destroyed in floods in the 1960s,[dubious ? discuss] all that remains is the sluice gate) on the upstream side of the viaduct, and provided both power and processing water to Reddish Vale Print Works, a calico printing works dating from before 1800.[6][7] The works had ceased printing by 1975,[7] and have now been demolished and the land turned into a butterfly park. The ponds are now used for angling, and attract herons and a variety of ducks. Most of the race has been filled in, but a short length carries Denton Brook down to the river. Denton Brook (and a small tributary) marks the traditional boundary between Reddish and Denton. The manorial corn mill (one of several to be known as Reddish Mill) was sited over the brook and was demolished in about 1860 when the ponds were extended.[3][8]
The village is fairly small, with only three bus routes through it, (Arriva 329 to St Helens, Warrington Borough Transport 29 to Collins Green (subject to rural bus grant) and Ogden 141 (St Helens to Newton) run on behalf of Merseytravel)[3]. The nearest major bus interchanges are in Warrington (6 miles) and Wigan (8.19 miles). The nearest railway station was Collins Green, but is now Earlestown, two miles to the north of the village. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is the nearest airport (10 miles to the west).[2]
