The Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) trains from Manchester Central to Northwich and Chester Northgate used platforms 3 and 4. The CLC also operated a service from Stockport Tiviot Dale via Northenden to Altrincham, latterly using Sentinel steam railcars, but this service ceased in late 1939.
Altrincham railway station is the southern terminus of one of the lines of the Manchester Metrolink light rail system, which connects it with the centre of Manchester and locations in Greater Manchester such as Sale and Bury. The Metrolink service also serves Navigation Road railway station. Metrolink services leave around every six minutes between 7:15 and 18:30, and every 12 minutes at other times of the day.[126]National Rail services link Altrincham and Navigation Road stations with Chester via Northwich, and with Manchester via Stockport. Altrincham Interchange, next to the railway station, is a hub for local bus routes. Manchester Airport, the largest in the UK outside London, is 4 miles (6.4 km) to the southeast of the town.
The school was originally to be named North Cheshire Grammar School, but this was not permitted by the county education authorities as the school was not government owned. Hamblin therefore replaced "Cheshire" with its Latinised form "Cestrian"; this maintained the same "NCGS" initials already in place on some school equipment.
Lacey Green lies northwest of Wilmslow town centre between it and the village of Styal.
The name, of Celtic origins, means a "place of running water" and is likely derived from an ancient stream that ran through the village centre.[2]
