Basildon

Basildon (pronounced /?bæzɪld?n/)[citation needed] is a town located in the Basildon District of the county of Essex, England.[2]

Upminster Windmill

The mill is located in a small open space maintained by Havering Council, known as Windmill Field[8] on St Mary's Lane. The nearest tube stations are Upminster Bridge tube station and Upminster station. Views from the top of the windmill include Canary Wharf and the transmitter at Crystal Palace.[9]

Upminster Bridge tube station

The new tracks built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway allowed additional intermediate stations to be constructed on the local lines between 1932 and 1935. Increased local demand was caused by the expansion of the built up area of suburban London during the interwar period. The station at Upminster Bridge opened with platforms on the local electric lines on 17 December 1934.[4] The station was operated by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway but was only served by District line trains. After nationalisation of the railways in 1948 management of the station passed to British Railways and in 1969 ownership transferred to the London Underground.[6]

Exit on the London-bound side, on Station Approach.

Hadleigh Castle

Hadleigh Castle (grid reference TQ810860) in the English county of Essex overlooks the Thames estuary from a ridge to the south of the town of Hadleigh. Built in the 1230s[1] during the reign of King Henry III, the structure is the most important late-medieval castle in Essex and is now preserved by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. The ruins of the castle are the most prominent historical landmark in the local surrounding area and provided part of the name for the newly formed borough of Castle Point in 1974.
