Degree ceremonies of the University of Gloucestershire take place at the cathedral.[9]
Gloucester was founded in AD 48 by the Romans as Glevum, and was granted its first charter in 1155 by King Henry II. Economically, the city is dominated by the service industries, and has a strong financial and business sector,[1] being home to the bank Cheltenham & Gloucester and historically was prominent in the aerospace industry.[2]
Kingsholm has hosted two international matches. It was a venue for the 1991 Rugby World Cup and is nominated venue for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
In 1716, the first Mineral springs were discovered in Cheltenham, transforming it into a spa. Lords and ladies from all over the country came to drink the waters because it was so healthy. In 1788, His Majesty King George III came to Cheltenham to drink the waters.
The town hall is now used for concerts, banquets, meetings, dances, balls, exhibitions, conferences and as one of the major homes of Cheltenham Festivals.
