Wymondham Abbey railway station

Wymondham Abbey railway station, opened in 1999,[1] is the current southern terminus of passenger services on the MNR, although the line continues beyond Wymondham Abbey to a junction with the Breckland Line at Wymondham railway station. The two stations are about a mile apart, and passengers wishing to interchange with local services operated by East Midlands Trains and National Express East Anglia on the Breckland Line need to make their own way between the two stations.

Wymondham railway station

Wymondham station is also the junction for the Mid-Norfolk Railway, although currently their passenger trains, running 11½ miles (19 km) north to East Dereham, operate from the separate Wymondham Abbey station. The two stations are about a mile apart.

Dereham railway station

The Lynn and Dereham Railway and the Norfolk Railway both obtained Parliament's permission to build lines to Dereham in 1845,[1] at the height of the so-called "Railway Mania", when railways were being built across the whole country. The Norfolk Railway, building its line from Wymondham, reached Dereham first, and opened its railway to passengers on the 15 February 1847; the line from King's Lynn had to wait until 11 September 1848.[2]
