The stadium was later demolished and is now the site of a private hospital.
Created by sculptor John Buckley, the shark was controversial when it first appeared. Oxford City Council tried to have it taken down on grounds of safety, and then on the grounds that it had not given planning permission for the shark, offering to host it at the local swimming pool instead, but there was much local support for the shark.[5] Eventually the matter was taken to the central government, where Tony Baldry, a minister in the Department of the Environment, who assessed the case on planning grounds, ruled in 1992 that the shark would be allowed to remain as it did not result in harm to the visual amenity.[1][6]
Headington's main employers are medicine, education, and research; it has a large and growing population. In the centre of Headington are a number of shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and other services. The area also contains the main campus of Oxford Brookes University, the Ruskin House campus of Ruskin College and the city's main hospitals, including the John Radcliffe and Churchill. Oxford United was originally Headington United F.C. Until 2001 its home ground was the Manor Ground, which had its main entrance on London Road. In 2001 Oxford United moved to the Kassam Stadium near Blackbird Leys. The Manor Ground has since been demolished and a private hospital built on the site.
Sundays travel to Ipswich railway station and walk into Ipswich following Princes Street, Friars Street, Falcon Street. Opposite Pals Bar is the Old Cattle Market Bus Station. From here you should use the 75A to Felixstowe. You should leave the bus at Saint Augustines Roundabout. From here cross the road, and follow the path round onto Felixstowe Road towards Ipswich, at the Railway Bridge cross over the road and walk down Cobham Road, from there you will see the Museum.
Chiltern Railways is said to want to restore services between London Marylebone and Rugby along the former Great Central Main Line.[11] This would have Brackley Central railway station reopen with direct services to London, Aylesbury and Rugby. However, the Department for Transport has chosen the former Great Central route through Brackley as part of the new High Speed 2 line between London and Birmingham.[12] Brackley Viaduct will need to be rebuilt if HS2 is built.[13]
