Greenock High Street.

Greenock West

Union Street is the longest before it cuts off into Newark Street. Greenock Academy is located at the far end of Brisbane Street on Madeira Street in the west end, and numerous churches exist within the west end, such as Ardgowan, St Luke's, Old West Kirk, St John's, St George's North, Finnart St Paul's as well as many smaller independent churches. Also located on Finnart Street is the James Watt College.

Most of the town's population lived in tight rows of terraced houses built under the shadow of the iron works. These homes were often owned by their employers. Living conditions for most were appalling, tuberculosis was rife.[23]

Bogside Moor Halt railway station

No trace of this station exists today.

Eglinton Country Park

The old working horse stables, etc. have been converted into offices, a tea room, toilets, etc. A small Doocot is present in the courtyard. The old OS maps show that by 1897 a gas works had been established here to supply the castle and offices. By 1911 this gas works had been replaced by an electricity power station in a new building which has been restored and is the present day park workshop.
