How to Move on Short Notice
Published on Tuesday, 14 August 2012

How to Move on Short Notice People often say that life sometimes can be unpredictable and you cannot plan what will happen in the next couple of weeks. This is quite right , and we remember it when the boss announces our promotion, requiring a relocation in another city which must happen in the next couple of weeks and no later than a month. Then, we know that we have to move.

Truth is, moving out can be a fun game if you have more than a month to pack and organize the whole process. However, if you only have a couple of days or weeks, the fun turns into a chaos. Let's say that you got a promotion or your wife has a new job and you have to relocate as quickly as possible. This definitely does not seem like the happiest and funniest game to play, but with the following tips you can manage a moving even if you have only a couple of weeks.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, instead of panicking, you should start doing a research for moving companies. This must be your first step, and it must be done at least five days ahead, so you can be sure that you will have a moving professional on the day you need them. You can easily find the best moving companies on the internet where you can also read feedback for each company from people who have used their services. Have in mind that finding a good moving service can be difficult and time-consuming, so you will need a couple of days to do that.

There are several things you need to find out before hiring a moving company. The first and most important is for how long the company has been in the business. Their experience will show you how good they are with the job. Then, you have to understand how much the company will charge you for their services. You also need to find out whether there are any additional services you can use and how much will they cost you.

Your next step is making a list of all the things you are going to pack. Creating a so-called inventory list will be very helpful in the whole moving process because in that way you can keep track of the items you have packed and which ones will be loaded and transported to the new place. For some people creating an inventory list is a waste of time, but this will only take you an hour. Remember that when you have to move your belongings on a short notice, you need to be organized and to plan everything, and making a list is a big part of your planning.

When you have an inventory list, you can easily divide the things you are going to take with you and those you no longer need and can give to your friends or to charity. In fact, this will be your third step - packing. Having everything written down, packing will be so much easier and quicker and will take you no more than two days, depending on how much stuff you will transport to the new place. If you have only a couple of days left to move out, you can leave only the things which you will need most and all the other stuff you can pack.

These are the three most important steps when moving out. If you follow them, you will save yourself a lot of stress and energy and will be done with the whole packing process for a couple of days. As you can see, with the right organization even moving on a short notice is possible.
